Our Engagement
On Tuesday, October 9th, Eric and Julie went for a hike up the Piedra Lisa trail, outside of Albuquerque, with their friend Ben, fiancé of their friend Amanda, who was sidelined with a toe injury.
Julie is no hiker, but she enjoyed so much her hike with Eric in the Sandias last Fall. She eagerly anticipated the Fall Hike 2006. On this hike, the group made their way up the Piedra Lisa trail, with Julie periodically pausing to recharge with raisins, peanuts, and water – staples of the Julie Newmark diet. The hike was about two to two-and-a-half miles up and Julie was informed that the view from the top would be outrageously beautiful. One could see the whole city of Albuquerque, and Placitas to boot. Along the way, Ben climbed a tree, Eric scampered ahead, and periodically pictures were taken of all involved. The day was proceeding swimmingly.

At the top, which the trio reached at about 4:00, Eric and Julie decided it was picture time. Ben obliged to take the couple’s picture. As Ben prepared the first shot, Eric turned to Julie and said “Julie, will you marry me?” Julie said “Of course I will!”

The proposal and the kiss
That evening, Eric and Julie went up to see Julie's parents, to share with them the good news. Burt and Karen were thrilled and champagne was poured and glasses were clinked.
